California Public School Discount

California public school teachers have access to Plus courses for free. We verify California teaching credentials for access to Plus courses. Plus courses DO NOT require a promotion code, as they are set-up upon request by emailing ucscout@ucsc.edu.

California public school teachers and students can access Basic for free using a promotion code after filling out the form. In Basic, students obtain access to video lecture content only. Verified teachers can obtain access to the full course content. To get a promotion code for Basic courses, click the button below and fill out the form.

Plans & Pricing

Scout offers three different types of courses: Basic, Plus, and On Demand. In Basic and Plus, your school provides the teacher. In On Demand, Scout provides the teacher.

On Demand

On Demand is for students who need a UC Scout teacher. All of our teachers hold the appropriate California credentials to teach their respective subjects.

In On Demand, students can progress at their own pace, however, the course must be completed by the section end date. A student is welcome to enroll in a class after the section start date.

Each semester includes the pre-recorded video lectures, assignments, tests, quizzes, midterm, and final exams, per semester.

The midterm and final exam are proctored through an online proctering service called ProctorU and students will be recorded during the test taking time.	Included

Plus

FOR SCHOOLS: Plus is our most popular plan that is free for California public school students and teachers. This plan is used by schools that want access to all the LMS tools, have multiple students taking a course, or have students at different schools in the district taking the course with the same teacher.

Note: In Plus, the student and teacher are linked through the online classroom. Plus is not available for enrollment on our catalog as we set these sections up upon request. For more information contact ucscout@ucsc.edu.

Full LMS Access Full LMS Access Scout's Learning Management System (LMS) is available to Plus users. Teachers can have assignments graded automatically, upload their own materials, create new tests and quizzes, and do many other things not possible in Basic.	Included
Grade book Grade book If an assignment can be graded automatically, the score can be sent straight to the grade book. This feature is not available in Basic.	Included
Calendar, Forums, Messages Calendar, Forums, Messages Plus teachers can use all these features. They are not available in Basic.	Included

Basic

Basic only contains video lectures for students! However, Basic is free for California public school students and teachers. Some use Basic as a full A-G approved course, but others use it to supplement face-to-face courses or to prep for AP tests.

In Basic, the student and teacher are not linked through the online classroom. The credentialed teacher must physically print and distribute the curriculum to the student if they are facilitating the course for credit.

In Basic (student and teacher version), most tests, quizzes, and other assignments cannot be taken online and instead must be printed out or distributed via .pdf. By supporting a basic version of an a-g approved course, we can ensure that these courses are available to California public school students, regardless of income. *This plan requires a facilitator or credentialed teacher if you intend to receive credit.
